WHAT IS A FLOTATION VEST?
A 50 N flotation vest is a buoyancy aid designed for competent swimmers. It is primarily intended for water activities in sheltered waters, with help close at hand and where the wearer can actively participate.
Its lightweight, durable materials allow freedom of movement, but it does not replace a lifejacket with a higher buoyancy rating when the activity or regulations require one.
IS WEARING A FLOTATION VEST COMPULSORY?
This depends on the activity, the craft and local regulations. Regardless of the legal requirement, using suitable safety equipment is essential when something unexpected happens in the water.
Some activities, including riding a personal watercraft, may require a buoyancy rating above 50 N. Always check the applicable regulations before use.
